Turkmenistan and the EU considered new areas of cooperation in transport

New areas of cooperation in transport were discussed during an informal meeting between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium S. Palvanov and the head of the cabinet of the European Commissioner for International Partnerships Taneli Lahti.

Transport emerged as a key area of focus, with both sides recognizing the growing importance of bilateral cooperation in the wider context of Central Asia-EU relations.

A number of existing bilateral and multilateral projects were discussed, and new areas of cooperation were considered, reports nCa.

An important topic of discussion was the upcoming launch in Turkmenistan of a coordination platform that will bring together transport ministers from Central Asian countries and the EU, which will facilitate closer cooperation and joint initiatives in this sector.

The platform will monitor progress, strengthen interaction and ensure the continued development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor.

An agreement to create a coordination platform was reached during the EU-CA Transport Investor Forum in January of this year, the source notes.
