Turkmenistan and Malaysia Sign Diplomatic Visa Exemption Agreement

Turkmenistan and Malaysia adopted an Agreement on Partial Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports (PVAA). They signed the document during the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Malaysia on December 1819, 2024.

The countries also established several agreements, including those on cooperation in tourism, education, and diplomat training. Additionally, they launched the Turkmen-Malaysian Business Council, which opens new opportunities for entrepreneurs in both nations, as reported by Turkmenistan's official media.

During the state visit, the leaders held productive negotiations, discussing issues related to economic development, cultural exchange, and education.They confirmed their commitment to long-term partnerships in the energy sector, highlighting the successful experience of the Malaysian company PETRONAS operating in Turkmenistan.

The discussions particularly focused on the oil and gas sector, which remains the foundation of bilateral interactions and presents opportunities for expanding economic ties.

The two sides addressed cooperation within the UN and ASEAN, emphasizing the importance of efforts to strengthen peace and stability in Asia. President Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the hospitality and invited Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to visit Turkmenistan for a reciprocal visit, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

On December 19, 2024, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the leaders of the Malaysian company Petronas Carigali during his official visit to Malaysia.
