Turkmenistan and Japan Sign Agreement to Eliminate Double Taxation

Turkmenistan and Japan signed an agreement to eliminate double taxation during the 15th meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees for Economic Cooperation, which took place on Monday in Ashgabat.

The Japanese delegation, led by Hiroyuki Tsubai, a board member of Itochu Corporation, attended the event. Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov opened the meeting, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and strategic partnerships between the two countries.

Negotiators focused on cooperation prospects in key economic sectors, including energy, industry, and transport. The meeting resulted in the signing of several agreements, including a cooperation agreement between the Turkmenhimiýa State Concern and Japanese companies.

The visit of the Japanese delegation included meetings with Turkmen government officials to discuss future projects and initiatives.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, who also chairs the Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation, met with a delegation led by Hiroyuki Tsubai, executive vice president of Itochu Corporation and chair of the Japanese-Turkmen Committee for Economic Cooperation.

During this meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, covering political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian areas, as well as international agendas.

Participants highlighted that regular high-level contacts actively promote the development of bilateral relations. They paid special attention to cooperation in key sectors such as the oil and gas industry, transport and communications, construction, industry, electricity, and green energy.

The co-chairs of the committees also reviewed ongoing joint projects in detail. In closing, both sides emphasized the strong level of trade and economic ties between Turkmenistan and Japan, based on mutual trust and consideration of shared interests.
