Turkmenistan and IRU develop projects aimed at simplifying cross-border procedures

Turkmenistan and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) are working on projects to improve transit and facilitation of cross-border procedures, reports Trend with reference to the words of Tatiana Rey-Belle, Director of the International Road Transport (TIR) and Transit Systems Department of the IRU.

Also, the parties are actively discussing at the expert level ideas aimed at developing the customs sector of Turkmenistan, the source notes.

In September 2022, Turkmenistan launched the TIR-EPD application, which permits holders of TIR Carnets (TIR) to submit electronic pre-declarations (EPD) to the customs authorities of different countries.

As Tatiana Rey-Belle said, the launch of this application is “a very important step that allowed Turkmenistan to join other projects related to the digitalization of TIR in the region”.

Let us remind that 5 customs points of Turkmenistan are connected to the international digital system TIR-EPD. These are the points: “Artyk” (border with Iran), “Ferry Gechelgesi” (port of Turkmenbashi), “Farap Avtoyollary” (border with Uzbekistan), “Sarakhs Avtoyollary” (border with Iran), “Garabogaz” (border with Kazakhstan).
