Turkmenistan and Iran to Increase Electricity Swap to 1,000 Mw

The capacity of electricity swap between Iran and Turkmenistan will increase to 1,000 MW after the inauguration of a new transmission line between Mary and Sarakhs cities, Mehr news agency reported, citing the Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian as saying on Tuesday.

The Iranian official made the remarks in a meeting with a visiting delegation from Turkmenistan, accompanying the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the Tehran visit. He informed that the current electricity swap capacity between the countries’ stands at 500 megawatts.

According to Ali Akbar Mehrabian, during the meetings, it was agreed that the operationalization of the construction of the four-circuit transmission line between Mary and Sarakhs, which is 150 km long, will begin as soon as possible.

On Tuesday, Petroleum Minister of Iran Javad Owji, following the meeting with Batyr Amanov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, told journalists that Iran will import about 10 million cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas per day.
