Turkmenistan and Afghanistan open new border infrastructure facilities

Today, three important facilities, built by the joint efforts of Turkmen and Afghan specialists, were simultaneously put into operation, namely, a 30-kilometer railway line on the territory of Afghanistan, between Akina and Andkhoy stations, a 153-kilometer power transmission line from the Kerki substation in the Lebap region to the Turkmen-Afghan border and the border fiber-optic communication lines Imamnazar Akina and Serhetabat Turghundi.

The ceremony was attended by the heads of two states Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, who made speeches via teleconference and launched the new facilities into operation.

The first lauched facility was the railwaty. A train of twenty freight cars and tanks with export products of Turkmenistan departed from the Akina station to the city of Andkhoy. These are mainly oil products, gasoline ECO-93, and mineral fertilizers.

Then, a power transmission line was launched, which will provide electricity to the cities of Andkhoy, Shibargan and Mazar-i-Sharif, and in the near future to Kabul and Puli-Khumri.

The last objects solemnly put into operation were fiber-optic communication lines between the border Turkmen and Afghan cities: Imamnazar Akina and Serhetabat Turghundi.

In his address to the participants of the ceremony, the President of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude to the Turkmen and Afghan specialists for successful and timely performance of the large-scale work activities.
