Turkmenistan and Afghanistan agreed to increase the volume of cargo transportation by rail

Representatives of the “Turkmendemiryollary” Agency (Turkmen Railways) and the Afghan Railway Administration agreed to increase the volume of traffic on the Serhetabad-Turgundi railway line. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Afghan Railway Administration.

According to the source, the parties agreed to increase transit through the railways of Turkmenistan, on the safe transportation of commercial cargo and on improving the management of the port of Turgundi.

At the same time, it was noted that at the moment most of the imports arrive in Afghanistan through the territory of Uzbekistan.

The railway between Serhetabat and the Afghan city of Turgundi was built in 1982, its length is 5.5 km. By 2019, Turkmenistan carried out a complete modernization of this branch, significantly increasing its capacity.
