President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the online cabinet meeting on Friday signed a resolution on adoption of the Roadmap for the development of international cooperation of Turkmenistan in the field of hydrogen energy for 2022-2023.
The document was signed following the briefing of Deputy Chairman of Turkmen Government, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on expanding cooperation with foreign countries and international organizations in such relevant areas as climate change, environmental protection, environmental management and environmental security.
Meredov presented a proposal to establish systematic cooperation with the United Nations Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) in Denmark. The center is hosted by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The Turkmen Foreign Minister also reported on preparation of a number of document on specialized projects with UNIDO, proposing to authorize the Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection to sign them from the Turkmen side.
The Turkmen President approved the proposals made and tasked the Vice-Premier, Foreign Minister Meredov to continue systematic work to promote environmental initiatives of Turkmenistan and further develop constructive cooperation with foreign partners in this area.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of introduction of advanced technologies for the development of alternative and, in particular, low-carbon energy, the practical use of its sources and potential in light of current problems associated with environmental issues and climate change.
And this is where there are broad prospects for the use of hydrogen, the fuel of the future, which is due to its high performance and, most importantly, environmental characteristics, the Turkmen Leader added.
In October last year, Turkmenistan’s major oil refinery Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries announced an international tender for the design, construction and commissioning of a hydrogen production unit.
