Turkmenabat’s kindergarten teachers mobilized in weeding of cotton fields

The authorities of Turkmenistan continue to use forced labour in cotton fields.

Pursuant to the decision of the education department of the city of Turkmenabat, Lebap velayat each kindergarten is obliged to send two employees a day to weed cotton fields, correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report.

Cleaners, laundrywomen and сare givers head to the nearby agricultural associations to pull weed in the fields and thin out cotton seedlings.

Last week kindergarten employees worked in the fields of agricultural associations “Jeihun”, “Vatan”, “Lebap” of Chardjev etrap and the agricultural association “Ashagbat”, Danev etrap.

People do not receive any remuneration for their work in cotton fields but agricultural associations are obliged to transfer a certain amount of money to bank accounts of pre-school educational establishments. This money can be used to pay for the renovation of kindergartens or purchasing of construction materials.

It has been announced earlier this year that space for cotton fields will be reduced but the cotton harvest target has remained the same.
