Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that the majority of parents of school graduates in Turkmenabat have borrowed money to make sure their children could have the Farewell Bell celebrations.
During this period dozens of suicide cases among school graduates are recorded as they fail to look in line with “generally-accepted standards”.These include dresses made of expensive fabric, expensive footwear, visits to beauty parlors etc.
It should be highlighted that residents of the city also have to borrow money to restore their houses after the hurricane which had hit the city.
For instance, in school №22 located on Zelili street, school graduates had to pay 260 manats for a photo album and 860 manats for dress fabric excluding tailor’s fees, a national collar, a skull-cap and a graduate’s ribbon.
School graduates had to make money contributions of 100 manats to purchase gifts for the school principal, the deputy principal and supervising teachers.Overall, parents spent a total of 3500 to 4500 manats to cover the expenses of a school graduate.
Grades of school graduates who intend to get enrolled into Universities can be improved in high school diplomas for a fee. A fee of 50 manats is charged for a “B” grade whereas 100 manats are charged for an “A” grade. These problems related to student grades can be resolved in the velayat department of education.
Radio “Azatlyk” has previously reported that in the run-up to the Farewell Bell several suicide cases were registered among school graduates in Lebap velayat as they had failed to find money to pay for the expenses related to the end of the academic year.
