20 years old Turkmen athlete Gaygysyz Torayev won two bronze medals - in the clean and jerk and combined event - in the weight category up to 81 kg at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent.
In the snatch exercise, Torayev lifted a barbell weighing 148 kg, and in the clean and jerk 189 kg. His total in the double event was 337 kg.
Kazakh Alexander Uvarov received the silver medal with a result of 343 kg. Gold went to the PRK athlete Ri Chong Song, who lifted a total of 369 kg.
Let us note that Torayev is the silver medalist of the 2023 Junior World Championships in Guadalajara (Mexico) and the 2023 Asian Junior Championships in Delhi (India). Currently, Gaygysyz performs under the leadership of the head coach of the Turkmenistan national team, Mansur Rejepov.
In an interview with Turkmenportal, the athlete commented that he was counting on a better result. Torayev added that he will make every effort to qualify for the Olympic
Games in Paris 2024 through the World Championships, which will be held from March 31 to April 11 in Thailand.
