The Turkmenistan national team has successfully started its performance in the Davis Cup zonal tournament, which is taking place in the Bahraini city of Isa Town. In the opening matches of group “B”, the Turkmen athletes won against the teams of Chinese Macau and Mongolia with the same score of 2:1, reports “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
The Asia and Oceania Zone group V tournament involves 15 national teams divided into four groups. Turkmenistan is playing in group “B”, which is considered the strongest in the tournament, along with teams from the Philippines, Macau of China and Mongolia.
The Turkmen team includes Yuri Rogusskiy, Meylis Orazmuhamedov, Gurbanberdi Gurbanberdiyev and Hajymyrat Charyev under the leadership of captain Mirali Gasanov. The delegation is headed by the Chairman of the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan Eziz Dovletov.
In the match against the Macau team, after a confident victory by Rogusskiy (6:2, 6:3) and a defeat by Orazmuhamedov (2:6, 5:7), the fate of the match was decided in the doubles, where the opponents refused to continue the fight with a score of 6:4, 0:2, which brought a technical victory to the Turkmen team.
In the second match against the Mongolian team, the Turkmen tennis players again achieved success with a score of 2:1. The decisive match was the doubles match, in which the Turkmen duo won a strong-willed victory - 5:7, 6:4, 6:2.
The next opponent of the Turkmenistan team will be the Philippines team, which confidently started the tournament with two victories with a score of 3:0.
It is worth noting that Turkmen tennis players have been playing in the Davis Cup since 2004. The team achieved its highest achievement in 2015, when it reached the playoffs of the group III tournament of the Asia and Oceania zone in Kuala Lumpur.
