Turkmen specialists are participating in a two-week online workshop on engineering survey of building, organized as part of a joint project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.
The online course, conducted by trainers from Germany and Kyrgyzstan, aims to strengthen national capacities in the field of seismic risk assessment and response to possible earthquakes.
As part of the training, students will perform an independent engineering survey of several buildings of different number of storeys in Ashgabat, and assess their earthquake resistance. So, for this purpose, it was supplied modern equipment of DiGOS Potsdam GmbH (Germany) to record seismic vibrations.
Engineering survey of existing buildings implies an assessment of their technical condition in terms of seismic resistance. It should be carried out taking into account the repeatability of the earthquake action, the assessment of the seismic risk of possible damage, as well as ground conditions.
After completing the training, local specialists will teach the second group of students themselves.
