The State Water Management Committee hosted an online meeting with Chargé d'affaires of the USA in Turkmenistan Valery Chittenden. The official has highly appreciated the efforts of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in implementation of the program of development of water sphere, where technical and technological rearmament of water management sphere of the country is an important aspect.
In this regard, the importance of “Water, Education and Cooperation” Project (Smart Waters), which is carried out by Central Asian Regional Ecological Centre with the support of the US Agency for International Development, has been noted. Under the project, Turkmen side has received the equipment for automatic water metering of water consumption.
The equipment will be installed at 14 locations along Murgab River in Mary Region. It will give an opportunity to specialists of Marysuwhojalyk Production Association to monitor water level in one of the main water artery of the country in live mode as well as to control irrigation flow.
Data received from precise instruments will give an opportunity to forecast water level and accordingly, to plan the management of water resources. It also plays an important role in the system of early detection of flood.
Special attention is paid in rational use of water resources as the main factor of development of agricultural complex and other industries as well as environment protection, provision of comfortable life conditions for Turkmenistan citizens in social and economic strategy of Turkmenistan.
It has been noted that big investment projects including the projects of increment of throughput capacity of Karakum River, provision of cities and villages of the country with pure drinking water are implemented in this sphere.
Modern water treatment complexes are built around the capital and in the regions; new water reserves are built and existing ones are enlarged, other aquatic facilities for creation of additional reserves of water, irrigation, flooding of pastures are improved.
Technical base of water management sphere, to modernization of which the government spends significant financial resources, is improved.
