Turkmen scientists have published research results on the use of BNCM against desertification

Scientists of the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan A.Rahmanova, D.Gadamov and A.Akmuradov published in the recently published issue of the International Scientific and Practical Journal“Problems of Desert Development” his research results on the use of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) as raw materials for the creation of bionanocomposite materials and biological products aimed at fixing shifting sands. “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports this

In the course of scientific research conducted in experimental plots of the Balkan velayat, the properties of biomass to bind and retain moisture in the soil were confirmed. The bionanocomposite material (BNCM) developed by Turkmen scientists can be used for phytomelioration of eroded lands in the dry steppe subzone of desert areas, as well as for combating shifting sands.

Scientific research supports Turkmenistan's efforts to fulfill international obligations under the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and the National Program of Action in this area.

In May 2024, the President of Turkmenistan approved the State Program for the Comprehensive Development of Biotechnology for 2024-2028.One of the areas of the Program is devoted to the study and use of algae to combat shifting sands.

As part of this initiative, a scientific and experimental base was created for the production of bionanocomposite materials based on biomass.

We previously reported that the Technopark of Turkmenistan received a certificate for the development of materials from cyanobacteria.
