Turkmen scientists and Polish orientalists will discuss the heritage of Magtymguly in Poznan

The Turkmen delegation led by the executive secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Chinar Rustemova is on a working visit to the city of Poznan (Poland) from November 23 to 25, 2024, the website unesco.gov.tm reports. The purpose of the visit is to participate in the international conference “Literary and philosophical heritage of the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi as a cultural bridge between the regions of Asia and

Europe”, organized by the Poznan University of Communications and Management.

Within the framework of the visit, the delegation visited the libraries of the historical, ethnographic and archaeological departments of the Adam Mickiewicz University, where they got acquainted with materials about Magtymguly Fragi and Turkmenistan. There was also a visit to the Central Library of Poznan to study the encyclopedia of Turkmen literature and information about the great poet.

Of particular importance was the meeting with the famous Polish orientalist, Professor Henryk Jankowski at the Archaeological Museum of Poznan, where the prospects for translating Magtymguly’s works into Polish were discussed.

It is noteworthy that Poland became the first European country where Magtymguly’s poems were translated: in 1842, the Polish scholar Alexander Khodzko published a biography of the poet and three of his poems in English under the title “Three Songs of the Turkmen Magtymguly” in London.

The international conference, scheduled for November 25, will bring together a wide range of researchers of Magtymguly’s work from Poland and other European countries, which will further strengthen international recognition of the legacy of the great Turkmen thinker and poet.
