Turkmen schools hold the Farewell Bell ceremony. The number of school graduates has reduced by 30% over the past 12 years.

On 25 May the Farewell bell ceremony was held in Ashgabat schools. As last year, because of COVID-19 restrictions, only first graders and school graduates took part in the ceremony, correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report. Previously students of all grades participated in the festive school assembly.

The news outlet “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports that in 2022 over 82,000 graduates will have completed secondary education in 1874 general and vocational schools.

State-run media outlets do not always report the number of school graduates, but based on official statistics, the number of school leavers tends to be decreasing considerably.

For instance, in 2020 some 80,000 graduates completed schooling in Turkmenistan; in 2018 85,000; in 2017 85,000; in 2013 95,000; in 2011 110,000; in 2010 115,000 and in 2009 115,000.

Thus, over the past 12 years the number of school graduates has decreased by 33,000 or by 30%.

However, over the past few years the number of first graders has considerably exceeded the number of school leavers. In 2021 161,739 children enrolled in Turkmenistan’s schools, in 2020 159,374, in 2019 153,855, in 2017 142,819, in 2014 109,716 and in 2011 100,000.

President Serdar Berdymukhammedov was about:blank on preparations for the Farewell Bell Ceremony at a government meeting held on 23 May and at the 19 May Cabinet session.

Every year the authorities of Turkmenistan hold various large-scale events when school graduates are mobilized into flower-laying ceremonies at monuments, marching along the streets, concerts etc.

At the same time young people are barred from congregating without supervision and are instructed to go home immediately after official events.

Owners of cafes and restaurants are also not allowed to organize festivities for school graduates.Schoolchildren and teachers often arrange parties at home.

In the villages of Lebap velayat students were allowed to celebrate the Farewell Bell at school or at students’ homes.A homeroom teacher must be present at the meeting to make sure schoolchildren do not consume alcoholic beverages. The post Turkmen schools hold the Farewell Bell ceremony.
