Turkmen school graduates barred from celebrating the Farewell Bell

On 25 May celebrations of the Farewell Bell were held in schools across Turkmenistan. “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports that over 85 thousand school graduates are completing schooling this year.

From early in the morning schoolchildren were involved in various large-scale festive events, including celebratory assemblies, flower-laying ceremonies to the monuments, city parades etc.

At the same time, sources at “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that school graduates were barred from getting together in groups without the oversight of the authorities. After classes and mandatory ceremonies they were instructed to go home.

Owners of cafes and bars were prevented from arranging parties and dinner events for school graduates. They were urged to close their premises no later than 9 p.m.

Needless to say, school graduates and teachers are discontent. Many got together with friends and classmates at home.
