Turkmen Private Sector Eyes Increase in Berry, Fruit Production

Turkmenistan this year allocated 65.2% more land for planting berries and fruits than in 2019, according to data from the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET). Turkmen private sector expects to produce more than 40 thousand tons of berries and fruits on 7,585 hectares of plots.

The increase in the area of land is due to the local populations’ growing demand for berries and fruits, the UIET said on Monday.

Turkmen private sector also continue to build refrigerated warehouses in the regions of the country for storing the produces.In accordance with the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, 38 refrigerated warehouses with the total capacity of 193,250 tons will open in the country in the coming years. 11 of them have already been commissioned, while the remaining 27 are at the design or construction stage.

The state program for increasing the production of export-oriented and import-substituting products in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 envisages the construction of 8 more refrigerated warehouses, which in total will be able to store 62,200 tons of the produces, according to the report.

The UIET stated the increase in the production of berries and fruits by Turkmen businesses becomes possible due to the state support the allocation of land for long-term use and the provision of soft loans for the purchase of seeds and equipment.
