President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov as a guest of the presidency took part in a video-conference meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on July 4, the press service of the Government of Russia reported.
According to the report, the meeting was chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the meeting.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Mongolian President Uhnaagiin Khürelsükh were invited to attend the meeting as heads of SCO observer states.
The parties considered ways of improving the organization's activities, strengthening the strategic partnership within the organization, the draft New Delhi declaration, enhancing cooperation among the states in various fields and a number of key tasks of joint activities of the SCO member states.
The previous SCO summit was held in September 2022 in Samarkand in a face-to-face format.As a result of the summit, the process of admitting Belarus as a full member of the SCO was launched, Iran signed a memorandum of commitment to join the organization, Egypt and Qatar became dialogue partners, and Bahrain, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar and the UAE began the procedure to acquire the dialogue partner statues.
