The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov is expected to visit Hungary over the weekend, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjarto announced during the extraordinary press conference on Friday.
In addition to the head of Turkmenistan, Presidents of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Serbiam and the Emir of Qatar will visit Hungary for the diplomatic summit that will be held on the backdrop of the Budapest Athletics World Championship, the Hungarian Conservative magazine reported, with reference to the Hungarian Foreign Minister’s statement.
He highlighted that the focus of the talks will be on three main topics, all related to the security of Hungary, Central Europe, and the entire continent energy supply, security, and addressing economic challenges.
Regarding energy supply, the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, and Serbia will discuss key questions, particularly highlighting Türkiye’s role as a transit state for natural gas and its increasing importance.
Szijjarto revealed that energy cooperation discussions are underway with Turkmenistan, aiming to make Hungary one of the destination countries for future Turkmen gas exports.
In early June, the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban visited Turkmenistan. The Turkmen-Hungarian talks at the highest level resulted in the signing of a package of bilateral documents.
