President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his working visit to Azerbaijan’s capital Baku on Thursday participated in the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group on COVID-19, the APA news agency reports.
The Turkmen President thanked his Azerbaijani colleague for the initiative to hold the summit and noted that the pandemic has seriously affected global development in political relations, socio-economic and humanitarian spheres.
"The Non-Aligned Movement promotes humanism, justice and equality. The organization has a clear agenda for cooperation. Through our joint efforts, we will be able to deal with the consequences of the pandemic. Once again I thank Azerbaijan for its effective chairmanship", President Berdimuhamedov said.
The summit was attended by UN Secretary General António Guterres, heads of states and governments of nearly 70 countries - the Presidents of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Libya, vice-presidents of Cuba, Gabon, Tanzania, prime ministers of Algeria and Kenya; high-level representatives from various countries as well as heads of international organizations Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Antonio Vitorino, Director General of the UN Geneva Office Tatyana Valovaya, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Khusrav Noziri, ministers, deputies ministers, ambassadors, as well as the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who joined the summit via video link.
During his visit to Baku, Turkmen President will also meet the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to discuss the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries.
