Turkmen President Meets Uzbek Senate Chairperson, Visits Samarkand

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov within the framework of his two-day visit to Uzbekistan met with Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva on Friday, the official Turkmen media reports.

Thanking the Head of the Upper House of the Uzbek Parliament for the welcome and hospitality, the Head of Turkmenistan said today's meeting provides a good opportunity to exchange views on the prospects for strengthening Turkmen-Uzbek parliamentary ties.

Following the talks, Serdar Berdimuhamedov left for Samarkand. At the Samarkand International Airport, the Head of Turkmenistan was greeted by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The Heads of State of the two countries visited the memorial complex of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and laid wreaths in his honor.

The Presidents then toured Ulugbek observatory, one of the most world’s most significant observatories of the Middle Ages, and got acquainted with its artifacts.

Berdimuhamedov and Mirziyoyev also visited the Mausoleum of Tamerlane and Registan Square, the famous architectural ensemble of the 15th-17th centuries, which includes three madrasahs Ulugbek Madrasah, Sherdor Madrasahand Tilya Kori Madrasah.
