President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Monday held a meeting with the Governor of the Russian city St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, who is on an official visit to Ashgabat.
The discussion between the officials focused on cooperation and promising projects in both the economic and humanitarian spheres, according to the Peterburgskiy dnevnik newspaper.
The meeting discussed the organization of a business forum between Turkmenistan and St. Petersburg, establishment of twinning ties between St. Petersburg and a new city in Turkmenistan the city of Arkadag, as well as the possibility of installing a monument to the classic of Turkmen literature Magtymguly Pyragy in St. Petersburg.
The talks also highlighted a proposal from a group of scientists in St. Petersburg to establish the Zhores Alferov Turkmen Institute of Electronics and Nanotechnology.
Alexander Beglov emphasized that fostering partnership relations with Turkmen counterparts would remain a significant priority in St. Petersburg's foreign economic and international endeavors.
