Turkmen President Invited to Visit Russia

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Thursday received Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

Matvienko arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Central Asian countries and Russia and the Dialogue of Women of Central Asian States and Russia.

The head of the Federation Council congratulated Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his election to the post of Turkmen President earlier this year. She conveyed to Berdmimuhamedov greetings from the Russian President Vladimir Putin and confirmation of his invitation to pay a visit to Russia, the Federation Council of Russia said in its press release on the meeting.

During the meeting, Matviyenko said despite a slight decrease in trade between Russia and Turkmenistan in 2021, in January-February of this year it increased by 74%.

The Turkmen President stated the great contribution of Valentina Matviyenko to the development of political, economic, cultural-humanitarian Turkmen-Russian cooperation and congratulated the guest on being awarded the Order "For Contribution to Development of Cooperation", according to the official Turkmen media.

Matvienko noted that Russian companies are showing great interest in working in the Turkmen market.

“The Central Asian region is very promising, It is a transport and energy bridge between East and West, South and North,” the Speaker of the Federation Council said.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov aslo held bilateral meetings with the Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan, the Chairman of the Majlisi Milli of Tajikistan, the Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan and the Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
