Experts from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO) from January 19 to 20, within the framework of the UNODC-WCO Global Container Control Programme (GCCP), held an online seminar for port control officials of Turkmenistan.
The event gathered the coordinator for interaction within the GCCP from the central office of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, members of the Port Control Groups of the International Customs Terminal of Ashgabat, and members of the Port Control Group of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan said in a press release published on Saturday.
The training focused on strengthening the theoretical and practical skills of members of Port Control Groups in the profiling and inspection of high-risk cargo, as well as the use of modern methods and systems of customs control.
During the seminar, an exchange of experience took place on risk analysis, the use of Internet to check, analyze and use the information contained in transport documents, methods of sealing vehicles and checking cargo in containers without damaging the seal as well as risk analysis for cargo customs declarations.
Representatives of GCCP Sendra Wence and Gerhard Retief gave speeches on these matters.
The experts noted the importance of holding such events to get acquainted with international best practices and modern methods in the fight against illegal trafficking of goods.
