Turkmen Parliamentarians Attend UN Internet Governance Forum

Representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the Parliamentary Online roundtable within the framework of the ongoing 15th annual meeting of the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF), TDH news agency reported on Tuesday.

The event, organized in collaboration with the IGF 2020, brought together parliamentarians from all over the world to discuss the role of internet technology in improving the lives and well-being of people and, in particular, how to build trust in times of COVID-19 and in post recovery period.

The Forum, as highlighted, serves as a constructive, timely platform for the exchange of best practices to help strengthen the legislative framework for Internet governance at the national level.

In this regard, it was noted that today in Turkmenistan, systematic work is underway on the transition to the digital economy, including the provision of legal regulation in this area.

The meeting participants emphasized the role of information technology in improving the efficiency of social management. Thus, the officials mainly discussed the use of IT technologies in improving the processes of adaptation of people to the conditions of modern life.

This year, the annual meeting of the IGF convened under the overarching theme of “Internet for Human Resilience and Solidarity”.
