From August 22 to 31, Dubai (UAE) will host the World Para Powerlifting Championship, which will feature 10 Turkmen Paralympic athletes. It is a sport for persons with musculoskeletal disorders in which they demonstrate upper body strength by lifting a barbell with weight.
As part of the Turkmen delegation, Mekan Agalykov, Maya Dzhaparova, Mayagozel Ekeeva, Roza Matyakubova, Sergey Meladze, Lachin Bayramova, Bayramgeldi Saparov, Ishkuvat Charyev, Dovletgeldi Amanmyradov and Ovezgeldi Ordzhiev will go to the world championship.
They will compete against over 600 participants from 79 countries, including Summer Paralympics champions and world record holders. The main favorites of the tournament are the Egyptian Osman Sherif, the Jordanians Omar Karada and Abdelkarim Khattab.
The Para Powerlifting World Championship is the qualifying round for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris. Turkmen athletes hope to show good results and win glory for their country.
