Turkmen, German Scientists Develop AI-Based Medical Equipment

The Council of Young Scientists at Turkmenistan's Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics, in collaboration with German scientists, has developed medical equipment based on artificial intelligence to assess pain in patients with cognitive impairments, as reported in Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper, issue 136, published on May 31, 2024.

The device, created in partnership with Professor Christian Brauweiler and Dr. Tom Shalom from the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau, uses Raspberry Pi, which ensures the accessibility and compactness of the system, integration of various sensors and devices for collecting relevant data on the patient's physical condition.

Artificial intelligence analyzes medical data, while a user-friendly interface helps doctors interpret the results.

As reported, German experts contributed their knowledge in AI and informatics, while the Turkmen side, in turn, developed the hardware.

The developed system has already undergone initial testing at the German partner university, where it demonstrated its effectiveness in clinical practice conditions.

This development has been awarded a copyright patent for software by the State Intellectual Property Service of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan.

The partnership between the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics of Turkmenistan and the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau began in 2016 based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the universities for bilateral cooperation.
