Turkmen Foreign Minister to Visit Afghanistan

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar held a telephone conversation with Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov on Tuesday to discuss various issues of bilateral relations.

According to the Afghan Foreign Ministry’s Tuesday press release, the diplomats discussed the forthcoming visit of the Turkmen Foreign Minister to Kabul during which he will meet President Ashraf Ghani, Foreign Minister Haneef Atmar and National Security Advisor Dr.

Hamdullah Mohib.The two sides also discussed the opening ceremonies of three projects due to be inaugurated ‪on January 14.

The projects include the Akina-Andkhoy Railway line, Kerki - Andkhoy - Puli Khumri Electrical Energy Project and the Fiber Optic Cable line extending internet connection from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

Afghan Foreign Ministry added that during his trip to Afghanistan, Meredow will also ink several Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with the Afghan authorities, including a MoU on Political Consultation, a MoU on Agriculture Quarantine, a MoU on Security and Protocol and a MoU on issues related to Gas and Oil.

During a government meeting on Monday, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed the implementation of projects aimed at ensuring the socio-economic revival of Afghanistan.
