Turkmen FM Meredov Attends CIS Foreign Ministers Council Meeting

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov took part in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), held in Moscow on Friday.

The meeting was attended by the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ara Ayvazyan, Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbayev, Foreign Minister of Moldova to Dumitru Sokolan, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov, Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, and Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

The meeting participants discussed current and promising areas of cooperation within the CIS. Economic interaction and the fight against the pandemic were highlighted as priority areas of partnership this year.

In his speech, Rashid Meredov outlined the vision of the Turkmen side on measures to strengthen cooperation within the CIS, and also touched on regional and international topics, noted the importance of restoring international legal norms and the need to follow the UN Charter in interstate relations.

The participants considered the implementation of the Action Plan to enhance partnership between the foreign ministries of the CIS member states adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

Following the CIS meeting, the officials adopted a number of documents.

The meeting participants decided to hold the next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers on October 14 in Minsk.
