Entrepreneur Maisa Velmyradova, a member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, has achieved a significant increase in the ostrich numbers on her farm.

As reported in the Rysgal newspaper on Monday, Maysa Velmyradova successfully raised the number of ostriches to 2,000, with the chicks hatched from 600 mother birds. In 2022, Velmyradova introduced 600 female ostriches from Türkiye to her poultry farm in the Dayhan association Makhtumkuli of Ak-Bugday district in Ahal province.

Since then, she has been involved in breeding and raising these birds.

Ostriches are known for their rapid growth and breeding capabilities and ability to thrive on minimal feed, primarily local grasses. These remarkable birds can start breeding at 2 to 4 and lay approximately 80 to 90 eggs annually. Each ostrich egg weighs around 1500 to 2000 grams, equivalent to 25 to 36 chicken eggs.

Ostrich eggs are particularly rich in sodium, selenium, and vitamins A and E, which provide valuable benefits to the human body. Their amino acid content differs from chicken eggs, containing more valuable amino acids. Additionally, ostrich eggs have deficient cholesterol levels.

The diet of ostriches consists of various grains such as wheat, maize, soybeans, barley, and sorghum, as well as premixes and vegetable oil. In the incubator, approximately 65-70 chicks hatch from every 100 eggs after 42-43 days.

Ostriches are raised for 9-10 months before they are ready for slaughter. During this time, each ostrich consumes around 600 kilograms of feed. On average, they gain about 300 grams daily, and their live weight reaches approximately 85-90 kilograms.
