Turkmen boxer Ovezov reached the 1/8 finals of the World Championship in Tashkent

Turkmen boxer Shukur Ovezov won an early victory in the 1/16 finals of the World Championship in the lightweight category against the representative of China Zhao Yikun.

Ovezov's uppercut knocked out his opponent.

In the next fight, Ovezov will meet with the representative of Spain, Jose Quiles. At the 2017 European Boxing Championships, José Quiles won a bronze medal, and at the 2022 European Championships, he became a silver medalist.

In the first middleweight division, Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov reached the 1/16 finals, defeating Steve Kulenguluk from DR Congo today. His next opponent will be Merwen Claire from Mauritius.

The World Boxing Championship takes place from April 30 to May 14 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan).

The prize fund of the tournament is 5,2 million dollars. The winners will receive 200 000 USD, the silver medalists 100 USD, and the bronze medalists 50 USD.
