Turkmen activists hold new protests to draw the attention to COVID-19 in Turkmenistan

A rally bringing together Turkmen activists was held in New York on 28 September, 2021. The news outlet Turkmen News reports that a few more protests will be held in the сoming days.

On 28 September, 2021 a protest was held in front of the UN headquarters in New York. On 29 September, 2021 two rallies are scheduled to take place in Manhattan, New York and near the WHO office in Geneva, Switzerland.

On 30 September, 2021 rallies will be held in front of the Embassies of Turkmenistan and Turkey in Washington, D.C., as well as the Washington office of the WHO. The activists have chosen the venue because they would like to draw the attention of international experts on covering up the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkmenistan.

The rallies in Geneva are coordinated by Murad Kurbanov, who has been denied entry to Turkey. The activists are worried about the fate of Dursoltan Taganova and other Turkmen nationals, who have recently been detained in Turkey.

As has been previously reported, on 27 September, 2021 the Turkmen activists Dursoltan Taganova was placed in a deportation facility “Selim-pasha” in Istanbul.
