The Speaker of Grand National Assembly (Parliament) of Turkey Mustafa Sentop during his visit to Turkmenistan told journalists that it is important to put Turkmen gas into use in this period of energy shortage in Europe.
A Turkish parliamentary delegation led by Mustafa Sentop arrived in Ashgabat on Thursday. At the Ashgabat International Airport, the delegation was greeted by Deputy Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmen bicameral parliameny Milli Gengesh Kasymguly Babayev and Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan Togan Oral, Anadoly Agency reports.
Speaking to journalists, the Turkish Parliament Speaker focused on various security issues on energy transport routes to Europe and said the energy corridor leading to the continent through Turkey has become very important.
Mustafa Sentop added that some countries, such as Azerbaijan, have decided to increase natural gas supplies to Europe.
Sentop informed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will visit Turkmenistan and hold talks to reach a trilateral energy agreement.
As part of his visit, Sentop will hold a series of bilateral meetings and address the parliament of Turkmenistan.
