On July 27-28, a training on systematic screening and preventive treatment of tuberculosis was held in Ashgabat.
The training, organized by USAID and the World Health Organization (WHO), was attended by TB specialists from the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.
The training was conducted by well-known tuberculosis experts Mihail Volik and Anishoar Chobanu. The experts presented the recently developed National Guidelines for Systematic Screening and Preventive Treatment of Tuberculosis. It is designed to introduce innovative approaches in methods and algorithms for screening tuberculosis in various target risk groups, as well as in tuberculosis prevention at all levels.
Guidelines for systematic screening and preventive treatment of tuberculosis with consistent training of medical personnel will allow early detection of cases of tuberculosis and reduce the development of active tuberculosis among those infected, thereby reducing the incidence and mortality from tuberculosis, according to a press release from the US Embassy in Ashgabat.
