Training on greenhouse gas inventory issues was held in Ashgabat

From April 3 to 5, a practical training was organized in Ashgabat to support Turkmenistan’s greenhouse gas inventory specialists, including familiarization with the global platform “Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency - Global Support Program” (CBIT-GSP).

The training was planned as part of the preparation of the Fourth National Communication of Turkmenistan on Climate Change (NC4) and was conducted within the framework of the joint project of UNDP and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan “Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza”.

The main goal of the training is to increase the level of knowledge of experts from key ministries and departments who are involved in data collection, development of national indicative parameters and compilation of national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions indicators.

Turkmenistan's GHG inventory specialists discussed issues of improving the national GHG emissions inventory for land use, changes in land use and forestry, and also became familiar with innovative methods for conducting GHG inventory, including IPCC software - IPCC Inventory Software.

The training is expected to support the compilation of national GHG emissions indicators within the framework of Turkmenistan's efforts to report on its commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Climate Agreement.
