Top Turkmen, Pakistani Diplomats Talk Preparations For OIC Ministerial Meeting

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a telephone conversation on Monday discussed preparations for the upcoming 48th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), scheduled to take place in Islamabad on March 22-23 this year.

The sides highlighted the importance of this session to strengthen cooperation in addressing pressing issues of regional and international agenda, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported on its website.

According to the Pakistani news agency APP, Shah Mahmood Qureshi stressed the importance of stepping up trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

The two ministers agreed to make the economic framework more effective and decided to have an early meeting of the Joint Economic Commission of the two countries.

The sides underscored the need to implement the important agreements reached during the high level meetings, especially during the meeting between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Pakistan Arif Alvi on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit held on November 28, 2021 in Ashgabat.

During the talks, the foreign ministers also paid special attention to practical issues of implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) electricity and fiber-optic communication lines.
