Top Turkmen Diplomat Meets OIC Secretary General

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha on Wednesday in Islamabad, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 48th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

During the meeting, Rashid Meredov congratulated the Secretary General on his election to this high and responsible post and stressed that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to its membership in the Organization.

The OIC Secretary General was informed about the results of the March 12 presidential elections in Turkmenistan. Meredov expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the OIC for sending an observer mission to the elections.

In turn, the OIC Secretary General stressed that all member states of the organization are making concerted efforts to address various issues faced by the Muslim Ummah.

The meeting featured discussions on a number of issues related to the participation of Turkmenistan in the activities of the OIC.

The 57-country Organization of Islamic Cooperation was founded on September 25, 1969.
