On 26 January an extended Cabinet session was held in Turkmenistan to sum up the results of the government’s performance in 2017.
In the course of the session President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov replaced three Deputy Prime Ministers.
Former Deputy Chairperson of the Cabinet of Ministers overseeing industry Mukhammetmyrat Aidogdyev was transferred to the position of CEO of Garlyk mining and refining facility manufacturing potassium fertilizers.
The head of the state said that the enterprise needs the leadership of an experienced manager.
Kerim Durdymyradov, who had previously held the position of the Ministry of Industry, was appointed the new Deputy Chairperson of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Purli Agamyradov, who had previously held the post of the Education Minister, was appointed Deputy Prime Minister overseeing science, education, healthcare, sports, youth policy and social issues.
Addressing the newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister, the head of the state called for paying increased attention to designing new curricula and training highly qualified specialists in finance, agriculture, electronic industry and international law to keep up with the times.
Agamyradov replaced Sapardurdy Toyliev, who, as was reported on 25 January, assumed the post of the President of the Academy of Sciences.
Former Deputy Prime Minister overseeing culture and mass media Annageldy Garadzhayev, was transferred to “another position” where according to the President, will be responsible for “reviving the glory of the Turkmen cinema”.
Bakhargul Abdyeva, who had previously been the head of the Department of Culture under the Cabinet of Minister, was appointed new Deputy Prime Minister overseeing culture and mass media.
Addressing Abdyeva, President Berdymukhammedov stated that the country is experiencing a shortage of qualified journalist and charged her with the task of establishing the Institute of Journalism and Mass Communications.
