The Nepal Tourism Authority issued 454 permits for climbing Mount Qomolangma (Everest) as part of the spring climbing season, the Chinese Xinhua news agency reported, citing Nepalese official sources.
This is a record number of permits issued in a season by the government of the country on whose territory the highest mountain peak in the world is located (the height of Chomolungma is 8848,86 meters).
More than two-thirds of those who have received climbing permits are women, mostly citizens of China, the United States and India. The Nepal Tourism Authority is still receiving applications, it is possible that the number of permits issued will increase even more.
Anyone wishing to climb Everest from its southern slope must pay 11 thousand dollars to the treasury of Nepal. Climbing starts from the second half of May.
