Today, May 9, Victory Day is celebrated - the 78th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Celebrate the liberation from fascism in many countries of the world affected by fascism, and the end of the bloodiest war in history, which claimed tens of millions of lives, soldiers and civilians.
In Russia and the CIS countries, Victory Day is usually celebrated on May 9, while in a number of other states, including European ones, this day is celebrated on May 8.
The fact is that the preliminary protocol on the surrender of Nazi Germany was signed on the night of May 8 in France, and then, late in the evening of May 8, an act of unconditional surrender of Germany was signed in Berlin.
In Moscow, at that moment, the night of May 9 had already fallen.
On this day, solemn ceremonies are held all over the world: laying flowers at the monuments to the fallen and heroes of the war, marches of the “Immortal Regiment”, meetings with veterans, theme evenings, military parades, concerts and much more.
This year, more than forty countries hosted the “Victory Dictation”, in Belarus, Armenia, Abkhazia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, Israel and other countries, tree planting campaigns were held (it is planned to plant 27 million seedlings - exactly according to the number of those who died in the Great Patriotic war).
In the CIS countries, as well as in Argentina, Sri Lanka, Cyprus, Chile, the “Fire of Memory” campaign was held, commemorative events are expected even in the capital of Angola, Luanda.
In dozens of countries around the world, on Victory Day, processions of the “Immortal Regiment” are organized, when ordinary citizens march in a column through the streets of cities with portraits of their ancestors who participated in the war, returned from it and died, went missing and forged victory in the rear, children of the Leningrad blockade and prisoners of fascist concentration camps.
