The Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, Serdar Jorayev, held a meeting with the Executive Director of the World Bank, Dominique Favre, at which the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation and outlined further plans for cooperation, writes “Anadolu”.
One of the key topics was the COVID-19 response project in Turkmenistan, for which the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development allocated 20 million USD.
Jorayev noted that a significant part of the allocated funds was successfully spent and aimed at strengthening the readiness of Turkmenistan to respond to the pandemic.
In turn, Favre noted that the country is a leader in the region in the implementation of this project and stressed the readiness of the World Bank for further cooperation on the designated issue. In this regard, the possible extension of the project and additional funding in case of interest of Turkmenistan were discussed.
The interlocutors also discussed the details of the implementation of a joint project aimed at supporting private producers of fruits and vegetables in Turkmenistan, as well as the preparation of a new country program and the appointment of the head of the World Bank office in the country.
It was noted that there are prospects for the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the World Bank in the field of green energy. In addition, the projects implemented by the World Bank in the countries of Central Asia - Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan can serve as an example of possible areas for further cooperation.
