The winner of the prestigious “World Car of the Year” (WCOTY) competition was announced at the opening of the New York Auto Show. It was the Kia EV9 electric crossover, which also received the title of best electric car.
Kia EV9 outperformed its competitors BYD Seal and Volvo EX30. It is worth noting that the Kia EV9 not only won the main prize, but also left behind Hyundai, which was the leader of the competition for two years in a row. Motor.ru reports this with reference to WCOTY.
This year, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was named the best sports car, beating out the BMW M2 and XM. The Ioniq 5 N is the most powerful Hyundai to date, its electric motors develop 650 horsepower, accelerating it to 100 km/h in 3,4 seconds.
The jury recognized the Volvo EX30 as the best city car, noting its high performance in a compact body. The power of the top version Twin Motor Performance is 428 horsepower.
In the luxury car category, the BMW i5/5-Series won, ahead of the Mercedes E-Class and EQE. The base 5-Series sedan produces 208 horsepower, while the i5 electric car produces 340 horsepower in its entry-level version, and 601 horsepower in the M60 xDrive version.
The prize for best design went to the Toyota Prius, which in its fifth generation received a sportier look with smooth body lines and C-shaped optics.
