The Turkmen delegation took part in the meeting of the Board of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in Dushanbe

The Turkmen delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Annageldi Yazmyradov took part in the meeting of the Board of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), which was held on November 28 in Dushanbe.

The meeting was attended by members of the Board, government officials of the founding states of IFAS, members of the Executive Committee of IFAS, representatives of the embassies of Central Asian countries working in Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the structural divisions of IFAS.

Representatives of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Tajikistan attended the meeting as an observer.

The meeting discussed issues of the regional agenda, including the results of the activities of the IFAS Executive Committee during the period of Tajikistan's chairmanship, the progress in implementing the projects of the Action Program for Assistance to the Countries of the Aral Sea Basin (ASBP-4), the achieved results of the activities of the Working Group to improve the organizational structure and regulatory legal framework of IFAS and other topics.

The head of the Turkmen delegation noted that within the framework of IFAS, Turkmenistan fully contributes to building up productive cooperation on solving such important issues as improving the socio-economic and environmental situation in the Aral Sea basin, rational water use, improving the environment, adapting to climate change, which is of great importance not only in the regional but also in the global dimension.

As a result of the meeting, the members of the Board made a number of decisions, including the decision to introduce modern equipment for recording and monitoring water resources in the basins of the Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
