The Turkish quintet Golden Horn Brass presents program Melodies of Anatolia

The Turkish wind quintet Golden Horn Brass presented the program “Melodies of Anatolia” in the Turkmen Music and Drama Theater named after Mahtumkuli. The Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the Turkish Embassy in Ashgabat organized the concert, dedicated to the Day of the Republic of Turkey.

The name of the group is translated as "Golden Horn", which causes an association with brass instruments, glowing with gold in the spotlight, and the Golden Horn in Istanbul.

Five musicians - Begum Gökmen, Julian Lupu, Husein Chakyr, Emre Berbergil and Renato Lupu (two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba) - for the first time in our country. The creative credo of the team is to present a rich palette of world music culture, using the expressive possibilities of sounding wind instruments.

The concert program was opened by the famous march from the opera “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi. The melodies of Turkey, as well as fragments from the opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet, a potpourri from Russian folk melodies and the works of Nury Halmamedov - “Pomegranate Tree” and “Turkmen Spring” in jazz processing, were originally sounded.

The Turkmen string quartet: Bahram Dolyev (first violin), Akmurat Kurbanov (second violin), Tahir Ataev (viola), Kakageldy Khodzhalekov (cello), added lyrical notes to the atmosphere of the evening, soulfully performing the works of Nury Halmamedov, Aman Agajikov and Rowshan Nepesov.

Then a surprise awaited the public: employee of the Turkish Embassy in Turkmenistan Mehmet Turkay was pleasantly surprised by the hall with his magnificent baritone.

The audience stormy applause and bouquets of flowers thanked the musicians for their virtuoso performing skills.

At a press conference, Begum Göckman, answering journalists ’questions, said that the group created in 2004 brought together not just the five best spiritual musicians of Turkey, but also like-minded people, because for successful co-creation, in her opinion, mutual understanding and unison performing thinking are important.

During this time, the group gained fame not only in Turkey but also abroad. In 2017, Golden Horn Brass was recognized as the best musical ensemble of the year in Turkey.

With tours, as well as participants of the festivals, the musicians visited ten countries - Moldova, Germany, Austria, etc., but they are in Central Asia for the first time.

“We are glad that Turkmenistan became the first Central Asian country in our creative biography, because our two peoples are linked by a historical and spiritual community. Ashgabat impressed us with its original architectural style and grooming. We are grateful for the kindness and attention shown to us,” said Begum Gockmen.
