Three-time “Formula 1” champion Max Verstappen was unable to rent a Mercedes-AMG GT sports car in Portugal due to the fact that he was under 30 years old. This is reported by gazeta.ru with reference to The Sun.
The 26 years old racer was vacationing in Portugal with his family and friends. They planned to rent about 20 cars from the rental company Sixt and the Algarve race track for two days.
However, according to local regulations, renting Mercedes-AMG GT sports cars is only permitted for people over 30 years of age. Verstappen had to rent a less powerful BMW 5 Series sedan. The sports car went to the driver's manager Raymond Fermuehlen.
Representatives of the rental company Sixt said that the company's employees followed the rules for insurance reasons.
Verstappen is one of the most successful “Formula 1” drivers of our time. He won 54 races and finished on the podium 98 times. Verstappen's salary this year was 43 million pounds sterling.
