The Russian national team refused to participate in the first championship of the Football Association of Central Asia (CAFA). This was stated today by the Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov, reports Match TV.
The championship will be held in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan) from 9 to 21 June 2023.
It is expected that the national football teams of Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will take part in the tournament.
The Football Association of Central Asia is a division of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which coordinates the development of football in the countries of this region.CAFA was founded on June 10, 2014 and officially began functioning on January 9, 2015.
It unites the football federations of Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.Until mid-2015, the organization was called the Central Asian Football Federation.
