The results of the 2021 census in the Russian Federation: the number of Turkmens in Russia has increased

The Federal State Statistics Service of Russia published the results of the 2021 census before the start of the New Year holidays. The next census in the Russian Federation was supposed to be in 2020, but due to the pandemic, it was postponed several times.

As the census showed, the population in Russia is growing - over 10 years, the population in the country has increased by 4,3 million people. About 147,2 million people live permanently in Russia.

Between the last two censuses in Russia, the number of Turkmens increased by 4,453 or 12,1%. If in 2010 during the census 36,885 people indicated themselves as Turkmen, then in 2021 - 41,338.

23,638 Turkmens are urban (57,2%) and 17,700 rural (42,8%). The absolute share of Turkmens living in rural areas falls on the Turkmens of Astrakhan and Stavropol living in Russia for almost the 4th century.

35,584 people named Turkmen as their native language. Of these, 19,819 people are among the urban population and 15,765 among the rural population.

The All-Russian population census was held from October 15 to November 14, 2021 in an online format.
