The prospects for expansion with UNOPS were discussed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

The prospects for expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN were discussed today by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov with the Director of the UN Multi-Country Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Austria, Freya von Groote, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

As part of its mandate, UNOPS is working with the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN system to improve the efficiency of international project servicing.

The Foreign Minister noted the role of UNOPS in assisting the Government of Turkmenistan to accelerate the implementation of programs and projects in the framework of the implementation of national development goals and determining areas of cooperation.

Priority areas of interaction are projects in the field of healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, green and digital transition, environmental protection and climate change.

During the talks, the parties also exchanged views on improving the professional training of national personnel.

The UNOPS office in Turkmenistan opened on June 10, 2021.

UNOPS is the operational arm of the United Nations, implementing projects for the UN system, international financial institutions, governments and other partners around the world. The global headquarters of the organization is located on the UN campus in Copenhagen (Denmark).
